Yesterday I was at the beach and this couple were practicing with a training kite for kite boarding. That kind of kite has a couple of strings and a steering column for controlling it to perform great acrobatic maneuvers.
While watching them I realized that life is like flying a kite.
Before I get to that when was the last time you really just went and played with a kite? For that matter, when was the last time you actually played?
Having a hard time with those questions. Then let’s see if flying a kite can help us see more clearly!
Your path is determined by how you control the steering mechanism of the kite. Correcting your path with small adjustments as you go along. These are your goals. Without goals your life is just a series of thinly weaved together circumstances and conditioning.
The height you reach in your life is determined by the length of your string. You are limited by your belief in your dreams. The string is your dreams. You will soar as high as you want so long as you believe you can.
Most times when you fall you need help getting back up. Its the same way with kites. The kite boarding type can actually pick itself up after falling down; with help from its steering mechanism. The other type of kite cannot do that; when it falls it just lays on the ground until someone picks it up or kicks it to the side; or throws it away as useless.
Which kind of kite are you? The kite boarding type that can move up, down, right, left and all around and pick itself up? Or, the standard kind that most kids play with that has only one string? The type of kite that only does one thing, up and down. The type that is totally controlled by circumstances (the wind).
The standard (mass population) kite has no control and is at the mercy of the ‘controller’ (your outside conditions and circumstances). In fact, yesterday I saw a few of these too. The one specifically I watched was attached to a chair that no one was setting in. The kite just patiently waited for instructions and none came; only the wind was throwing it back and forth to keep it steady. If the wind would have suddenly dropped, the kite would have fallen and crashed to the ground!
Are you like that? Anchored down by your beliefs to some unseen object? Waiting for someone to tell you what to do?
Your life does not have to be that way. You can learn to be a dynamic kite boarding type. If you have fallen down asking for help is not a weakness; in fact, it is just the opposite. All successful people have asked for help, have mentors and coaches to get them moving again.
You can fianlly enjoy living. Just get involved, get it going. Stop setting there waiting on someone else. You know what you want, now go get it. Just go fly a kite!
Here is to your success,
Your Coach Robin Harpe
