Lately, I’ve noticed conversations around me are focused

on the negative side of life.

You know me, I do not expect you to be a pollyanna all

the time — I do advocate a positive outlook on life.

We know people who are positive and have positive

communications are healthier, happier and calm-er.

But, lately everybody seems to be so stressed out.

On my way back to the office from visiting with a client,

it occurred to me as I watched people picking up kids,

pulling out in front of others, running red lights and

slamming on breaks we are all just worn out and not

focused on what is important.

This year has been one long event to many and

causing doubts and worry to prevail.

What if I could give you some tips on how to handle

stress during this time and especially now that Holidays

are beginning to be on your mind.

Here are 5 tips to build up resistance to stress:

Exercise — The very best weapon against stress is

simply to exercise.  This reduces depression like

symptoms and after three or four short weeks you

will feel so much better.

Eat Well — This doesn’t include greasy unhealthy

foods; this includes lots of fruits, vegetables and

loads of fiber.  Fiber gets the body moving and

you just can’t imagine how good you’ll feel.

Eat at regular times and choose healthy over

other choices.

Get Enough Sleep - This is very important now that

flu season is upon us.  If you are run down take

a day during the weekend and just rest; stay

in your pajamas all day and have a “snow” day

whether it is snowing or not!!  Point is take

a mental health day.

Reduce Caffeine - You know this is an addictive substance

legally it is fine; but to your body it is poison.  Ok, I do

have to have my Diet Coke once a day; I’m hooked.

You may be too; just look at the other things you are

drinking or eating that also contains caffeine.  If anxiety,

fear and/or anger are issues for you reducing your

intact of caffeine will help reduce the effects of this

substance.

Create a Balanced Life - In my book I discuss many more

ideas for creating the balanced life for you.  I challenge

you to not multitask.  Research has proven that this

actually decreases your effectiveness and productivity.

If you are multi-tasking then perhaps your life is out

of balance.  Get help; hire out work around your house

barter if necessary; offering your skills for some else’s.

Every country started out this way; let’s get back to

helping our neighbor.  If you do not slow down and take

a long look at your life you are running the risk of

creating a life where you are pulled to be passive,

aggressive or passive-aggressive.  None of those

behaviors will help you reach your goals.

Learn more about developing the courage to be more assertive

in your life to create the life of your dreams.
